Optimizing cash supply chains

Banks traditionally manage their own cash supply chain, but more and more cross chain control centers such as Geld Service Nederland take over that role. Cash supply chains are important worldwide but remain virtually unexplored in literature. In this research we develop methods for network planning to improve the management of the cash supply chains of banks. We aim to develop strategies and methods for generating increased efficiencies in cash supply chains by integrating transportation, inventory and maintenance decisions, while seeking sufficient unpredictability in the routes for safety reasons. Our project is supported by software provider ORTEC and by Geld Services Nederland. It is furthermore backed by the three large Dutch banks (ABN-AMRO, ING Bank and Rabobank) and the Dutch central bank (DNB)
