Mobile devices

This is a collaboration between Bart van den Hooff, Marleen Huysman, Anastasia Sergeeva and others, and focuses on the use of smart mobile devices such as smart phones, tablet computers and the like, in organizational information and communication processes. Again, our focus is on the affordances and constraints of these devices and the various paradoxes (toy or tool, work/life balance vs. overload, flexibility vs fragmentation) to which they give rise in practical use. We also pay specific attention to the coupling of these devices to large-scale Enterprise Systems, and the management issues that arise when Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is implemented in organizations – security issues, for instance, are of prime interest here. We have been and are conducting various empirical explorations in a number of organizations, and would really like to extend these explorations towards more long-term and structured collaborations with organizations from practice.
